If you are thinking of adding an Adult Coloring Book to your portfolio of books or already have one, this post is for you. The rise of The Coloring Book has coincided with the rise of the email list. As authors the email list is our most powerful tool.
There’s only one problem. It’s a coloring book? How do you capture emails with a coloring book? But let’s rewind to the start.
I had been watching the rise of the Adult Coloring Book and they seem to be popping up everywhere. They were now in supermarkets, retails stores, art and craft stores and just about every bookstore had them displayed.
As a writer and graphic designer who had self-published several books, I decided to give it a go. I knew I could do it and so I got to work.
Eight weeks later I had created Sacred Heart: A Coloring Book Inspired by Sacred Heart Art. In this time I had been thinking about how I could collect emails just like my other books.
Like any other author I put on my business hat. I knew all about reader magnets. I have a free book inside my Kindle Book plus I gave away free books on my website. I had experimented with Facebook ads and competitions. My list had been steadily growing. Now I just needed a Color Magnet. What’s a Color Magnet you ask? A Color Magnet is a free gift for people who ‘color’ in exchange for their email address.
I decided to giveaway a Free Mini Coloring Book inside my Coloring Book. Here’s what the page looks like:
In WordPress I created a page with an image and link to the free gift. No fancy landing pages here. Mailchimp did the rest.
But it doesn’t stop there. Your free gift can keep on giving. You can now use this list that is linked with your free gift to get subscribers from Facebook ads, Freebies on your site and you can slip it in a newsletter or two.
Every book is an opportunity to get discovered. It is our responsibility as authors to capture our readers and fans. Coloring books are no different. Think of a Color Magnet your ‘colorers’ would love to sign up for. Free books convert well but there are also competitions and prizes you could give away. Think outside the box and you’re sure to have a lasting career.
